チグニッタで開催中山田茂個展「bright lines」展示作品をオンラインでも販売します。ニューヨークでアートを学び、現在は岡山で制作活動をする山田の作品は、禅の精神にインスパイアされ、作品とそれを取り巻く空間のなかに観る人を惹き込みます。様々な素材を用い、多彩な表現活動を行う作品シリーズの中でも、今回は「線」にフォーカスした作品をご覧いただきます。海外発送も承ります。

山田茂の作品は物理的なオブジェクトであると同時に、その周囲の空気や光、壁面との距離、さらには鑑賞者との間に生まれる視線や気配といった要素を取り込みながら成立する。構成には侘び寂びの哲学が反映され、余白や静寂、余韻といった視覚化しにくい要素を造形的に扱う。制作においては、異なる素材の組み合わせは、コントラストやズレを生み、そこに偶然的な表情が立ち現れる。完全を目指すのではなく、あえて未完成の状態に留めることで、観る者の想像を促し、手作業による痕跡を積極的に残すことで、時間や身体性を作品に内在させている。

Shigeru YAMADA　山田　茂
1966年　岡山県生まれ。The Art Students League of New Yorkで学び、現在は岡山県に拠点をおいて制作活動をする。禅芸術にインスパイアされた作品は、閑寂さと共に凛とした空気感と奥深さが感じられる。国内外での個展のほかに、The Okura TOKYOなど、ホテル・マンションなどの建築空間のコミッションワーク製作。また、サンゲツ壁紙デザインアワード2017・2018と2年連続で大賞を受賞後、サンゲツの壁紙デザイン開発も手がける。

The works from Shigeru Yamada's solo exhibition “bright lines,” currently on view at Chigunitta, are also available for purchase online. Inspired by the spirit of Zen, Yamada's works—created after studying art in New York and now based in Okayama—draw viewers into the piece and the surrounding space. While his series employs diverse materials and expressive techniques, this exhibition focuses specifically on works centered around “lines.” International shipping is available.

Shigeru Yamada's works exist as physical objects while simultaneously incorporating elements such as the surrounding air and light, the distance from the wall, and the gaze and presence that arise between the work and the viewer. His compositions reflect the philosophy of wabi-sabi, treating elusive elements like negative space, silence, and resonance in a sculptural manner. In his process, combining different materials creates contrasts and misalignments, giving rise to accidental expressions. Rather than striving for perfection, he deliberately leaves works unfinished to stimulate the viewer's imagination. By actively retaining traces of manual labor, he imbues the pieces with an inherent sense of time and physicality.

Shigeru YAMADA
Born 1966 in Okayama Prefecture. Studied at The Art Students League of New York and currently bases his practice in Okayama Prefecture. His works, inspired by Zen art, convey a sense of quiet solitude alongside a crisp atmosphere and profound depth. In addition to solo exhibitions domestically and internationally, he creates commissioned works for architectural spaces such as hotels and condominiums, including The Okura TOKYO. After winning the Grand Prize at the SANGETSU Wallpaper Design Award in both 2017 and 2018, he also handles wallpaper design development for SANGETSU.
